I am considering hiring an elderly carer in our home for my father who has Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinsonism. Both myself and my husband work full time, and have children at school, and despite having some help from the HSE, I would like to find a carer that can integrate and become part of our family seamlessly, to help to take care of my Dad whilst I work. Dad is a lovely character, that needs a lot of help now as his dementia is late stage. He sleeps a lot, but can be a lot of work, as he is rather forgetful and can do very little for himself. As a family, we need help for Dad with showering, personal care, food preparation (whilst I'm working or not at home), retrieving items from the kitchen such as drinks and food, helping to keep his bedroom tidy and perhaps in warmer weather a gentle walk around the garden. Having cared for both of my parents, full time for the last 7 years, whilst working full time, raising children, and running our home, since losing my my mum in August, I know that we need a different solution to the one that we currently have. I would also like to meet carers that would consider overnight stays on occasion, if we need to travel or take a break.
