The position involves providing care for an elderly man with Parkinson's Disease who resides in his own home. He is unable to communicate verbally, and he uses a variety of communication aids and assistive technology to communicate. He is confined to a wheelchair and a Sara Steady hoist is used to assist with transferring him from the bed to the chair and vice versa. At the moment, there are two carers residing in the house, however the carer who works during the day will be leaving soon. Hence, the roster is being restructured and we are seeking a few carers to share the schedule/roster which includes morning and afternoon shifts 7 days per week and 1–2-night shifts each week, one carer works per shift. The night carer’s preference is to have Wednesday and/or Fridays off. There is the option to stay overnight if your preference is to combine the day shifts (10hrs + 2 hours break) and work consecutive days in a row. This can be discussed when you apply for the position. Some duties may include assistance with various daily tasks such as feeding, grooming, toileting, hygiene, dressing, etc), administering medication six times a day at scheduled times, taking care of household chores like laundry, vacuuming, preparing meals, changing bed linen, daily record keeping, and so on. Rates will be discussed with the carer directly. Manual handling training/experience Having a driver's license and access to own transportation is strongly preferred. The following times/shifts are a guide – there is some flexibility to adjust the times. Monday – Sunday Morning shift – 5hrs 8am – start 1 hr break 2pm – finish Afternoon shift – 5 hrs 2pm – start 1 hr break 8pm finish Night shift – 5 hrs active + 2 hrs 8pm start 1 hr break Downtime when the gentleman sleeps is generally from about 11pm ish until about 6am most nights. 8 am finish Applicants must be available to start immediately.
