Job Description: About the Role: We are a private household seeking a reliable, positive, and enthusiastic Disability Support Worker to act as a Personal Assistant for our 18-year-old son who has an intellectual disability in the mild to moderate range. The primary focus of this role is not medical or personal care, but rather mentorship, supporting personal independence, and facilitating active participation in leisure, social, and community activities. We are looking for a support worker who has availability 4 days per week for 6 hours per day (24 hours per week) Key Responsibilities: • Community Integration: Accompany and drive our son to local leisure activities, social clubs, sports, or hobby groups, when taking public transport is not practical • Life Skills Development: Assist in practicing independent living skills, such as taking public transport, road safety, planning and carrying out leisure activities, making phone calls, completing household tasks. • Companionship: Act as a positive role model, engaging in conversations, promoting confidence, and planning fun, age-appropriate activities. Requirements & Qualifications: • Driving License: Full, clean driving license which is accepted for use in Ireland. Having access to own transportation would be an advantage however access to the family car can be arranged if needed. • Garda Vetting and References: Must be willing to undergo or provide a clear, recent Garda Vetting check for private household employment and provide two recent references. • Experience: Previous experience working with young adults with intellectual disabilities is highly preferred. • Qualifications: QQI Level 7 in Social Care or a related field is an advantage but not strictly mandatory for the right personality fit. • Personal Attributes: Patient, energetic, reliable, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for promoting independence in young adults with intellectual disabilities.
